Reading and spoilers
Why are some people, places and exhibits locked?
That’s spoiler-safe at work. Everything in a case stops at the furthest chapter you’ve read, and opens when you get there. To see everything at once, turn off Spoiler-safe in Settings, or on a case’s map.
Can I see what the later chapters are called?
Yes. Turn on Show later chapter titles in Settings.
How do I make the text bigger?
Settings › Text size sets the story from 17 to 23 points, with a sample to read as you go. The rest of the app follows your iPhone or iPad’s own text size.
Listening
Who reads the chapters aloud?
A narrator, wherever a chapter has been recorded. Where it hasn’t yet, your device’s own voice reads it, and the recording replaces it when it’s ready.
Can I change the speed?
Tap the speed button in the player to step through 0.75×, 1×, 1.25×, 1.5× and 2×. Settings › Listening speed sets where it starts.
Does a case I’ve listened to count as read?
Yes. Reach the end of the last chapter by reading or listening and the case is finished.
Your data and devices
How do I keep my place on iPhone and iPad?
Sign in to the same Apple Account on both, with iCloud on for The Small Hours. Your progress, notes and answers sync through your own iCloud.
Why does Near me want my location?
To show the cases closest to where you are, only while you use the app. It stays on your device. Change it any time in Settings › Location for Near me.
How do I start again, or delete everything?
Settings › Delete all my data removes your progress, saved and followed cases, notes, highlights, answers and settings from this device and your iCloud. It asks first, and it can’t be undone.
Something not adding up?
